summer learning journey / river
On the 18th of December 2021 I went to my Aunty Nickys house, she lives in Waipapa. It was a really hot day so we decided to go swimming in the river.
At the swimming hole we discovered a log had fallen down right over the river. We wanted to jump off the log into the river but Aunty Nicky said it could be dangerous and I had to stand in the water to see how deep it was. I could not touch the bottom, so it was safe.
Then one bye one Connor, Tyler, and I jumped in the river, the first jump was scary but we had lots of fun. Then went back to the house.

Strawberry Muffins
By Jennifer Sega / olivia browne
Jam-packed with juicy berries, these strawberry muffins with crisp, golden tops are as pretty as they are delicious.
Servings: 12
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 30 Minutes
Total Time: 50 Minutes
INGREDIENTS
2 cups all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup and leveled-off with knife, plus 2 teaspoons more for tossing with strawberries
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick or 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup milk
2-1/4 cups diced strawberries, from 1 pint, divided
2 tablespoons turbinado sugar, for topping
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners; spray the liners and the pan with non-stick cooking spray.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter and granulated sugar for about 2 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, scraping down the sides of the bowl and beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract and almond extract. (The batter may look a little grainy -- that's okay).
With the mixer on low, add the flour mixture in three separate additions, alternating with the milk and ending with the flour.
Toss the strawberries with 2 teaspoons of flour (this will keep them from sinking to the bottom). Set 1/2 cup of the berries aside. Add the remaining berries to the batter and fold with a spatula until evenly distributed. Do not overmix.
Scoop the batter into the prepared muffin tin (an ice-cream scoop with a wire scraper works well here); they will be very full. Scatter the reserved berries evenly over the muffins, then sprinkle the turbinado sugar over the center of each muffin (keeping the sugar away from the edges will prevent sticking).
Bake for about 30 minutes, until lightly golden and a cake tester comes out clean. Run a sharp knife around the top edge of each muffin to free it from the pan if necessary (the edges can stick), then let the muffins cool in the pan for about 25 minutes. Transfer the muffins to a rack to cool completely.
Freezer-Friendly Instructions: These muffins can be frozen for up to 3 months. After they are completely cooled, double-wrap it securely with aluminum foil or plastic freezer wrap, or place it in heavy-duty freezer bag. Thaw overnight on the countertop.

Gorilla writing
We did a snapshot of a gorilla in the grasslands.
here is my writing
My story continues…
The next second I was in the middle of nowhere!
There was standing a big… fat… ugly… GORILLA! Pat was whining so scared that I had fainted. The next 2 hours I was in the gorilla’s hands walking over the grasslands. There we saw majestic elephants and the scorching hot sun. ‘’look pat!’’ Said sam. A flock of birds! Woof woof! barked Pat. The birds flew. The gorilla sat down and put us down on the ground.
From far far we could still see the majestic elephants walk back home. And the flock of birds set off to bed.
Finally the sun went down behind the horizon. Me and Pat set off to bed too. The end.

Animorphed writing
Once upon a time there was a little girl called Olivia.
She loved to read, draw and colour.
One night her nan called her to dinner.
“LIVY COME TO DINNER!”
“Coming nan!”
On her plate was potato, meat, broccoli, and cauliflower!
“YUM!” she said loudly like a lion!
After dinner she walked quietly to her bed. Her room was dark… the moon shone on her.
She hopped in bed and fell asleep.
2 hours later she woke up. She had never woken up in the night before.
She looked out the dark and creepy window. “BLUE GLOW!” she said surprised.
Blue glow was out the window!
She had to explore. She carefully climbed out the window.
IT WAS A SQUARE! A BLUE SQUARE!
She thought she could just touch it.
She did it. BOF!
IT VANISHED INTO THIN AIR!
She went back to bed. That was so weird.
9 hours later… in the morning. She went to brush her teeth.
She looked in the mirror. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! But it sounded more like a Woooooooooooooooof
She was hideous! She was disgusting! She WAS A……… DOG! Short and stubby! Brown fluffy fur with a black muzzle.
What is she going to tell NAN?
Before she could not BARK or WOOF and now was short and stubby!
She CAN NOT BE A DOG FOREVER!
Nan came in…
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! DOG DOG DOG! GET THE POUND!
“No no, nan, it’s me livy!” she said. All she heard was barking loudly.
WOOF WOOF WOOF!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa! GET THE POUND!
Pop came in with the pound.
She ran and ran! Then jumped out the window crying…
Why am I a dog, why am I like this and why are my grandparents so scared of me!!!! She thought to herself. “I will just go to the pound. Maybe I will get adopted!” she said.
The pound came.
YELP!
She was taken to the pound.
One day a little boy called Connor came to the pound to adopt her.
I did not want him to adopt me!
But It would be nice to get out of the pound.
So he adopted me and 4 months later I was bigger!
I was still short and stubby but I was used to dog life! I sat down by the worm fire.I smell my dinner!
Tonight must be the NIGHT to catch the square!
After my dinner Connor put me to bed.
I went outside and tried and tried but I could not catch it!
2 years later I was bigger.
I tried again every night every year I was bigger!
One night I caught it! Nothing happened...suddenly…
OW my head was aching’ my tail was srinking’
AND I AM BACK! To human! The end
