Koru Art

Today we made korus with Whaea Rose. We used green and red and blue ink to stamp our koru shapes onto white paper.
My koru represents my family.
I really like the yellow koru in my colourful, koru art.
Here is a photo of me and my art.

EQUIPMENT
AND MATERIALS:
Bottle Cap, disc, balloon.
PROCEDURE:
Step 1: Glue the bottle cap over the CD hole.
Step 2:  Blow up the balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end so no air comes out.
Step 3: Stretch the balloon over the end of the bottle cap.
Step 4: Open up the cap and place the CD on the surface.
Step 5: Untwist balloon and let go.
OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:
It slid across the table.

CONCLUSION:
The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the CD and reduces the friction across the surface.

Bridge Building

We have been learning about forces and how they help shape the sort of bridges that we build.
We learned that there are three main types of bridge design; beam, truss and suspension.  Using this knowledge we designed and built our own bridges.Miss Fletcher set the challenge that our bridges had to be 30 cm long and strong enough to hold an object. In my group there were Ella and Mikayla.  We used egg cartons, ice block sticks and paper towels to build our bridge. Here is a photo of our truss bridge. What I like best about our bridge is the road markings.

Writing Speech

For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches.
My topic was endangered animals.
We had to present them in front of our class.
I think it went very good because I was nice and clear with my speaking.

Here is my speech.

Have you ever wondered if we should save endangered animals? Well I want to.  If we do not save endangered animals there would be no more left. I believe that all people should respect endangered animals. And I will tell you why.

Firstly, animals are special to all countries. In NZ kiwis are special. In china pandas are special. In Africa tigers and rhinos are important. The Bengal tiger is special in India.
Secondly, animals are endangered because people burn forests and the animals have nowhere to go. But sometimes animals run away.

Finally, I will tell you about the hoiho. The hoiho is known as the yellow eyed penguin. The hoiho is endangered because weasels, rats and cats can eat up the eggs.

I strongly believe that animals should be somewhere safe. Like in the zoo, the zoo is the safest place for animals to be safe from hunting and people who destroy their habitat. We will help protect you animals!
